The Basha Kill

We went to the Basha Kill the other day and I just got done editing this photo. I used the wide angle Canon 17-40 f/4 L @ f/16 for this image. I also took 3 exposure's to create an HDR.

Fallsburgh Falls is a flowin!!

Michele and I stopped down to the falls last night after work. We love going to this place and I think we got some really good shots with different compositions than normal due to the height of the water. Most of the rocks that are usually there were under water so it was really cool to see :)

Just click on the image for a larger view ;)

Incredible Artist

Michele and I had the pleasure to meet and work with an incredible talented local Artist this Saturday. Dennis Fanton is his name, and he brought in a piece of his work for us to digitize and print on our Archival printer. Amazing work to say the least and if your into great paintings, I would highly encourage you to check out his work on his website. http://www.dennisfanton.com

He also teaches and regularly displays his work at the Wallkill River School.com, located in Montgomery, NY. It is also worth noting how nice of a guy Dennis is! We had a great time and I hope we get the oppurtunity to work with him again in the near future.

The piece he brought in for us to work on is titled "Awakening".

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all those Dad's out there :) I just wanted to take a moment and say how lucky I am to have a Dad like mine! My Dad has taught me so much over the years and has been nothing but supportive my whole life. With his encouragement and talent for for working with his hands I was lucky enough to be inspired in many many ways. As of late my Dad has helped us with the studio by building an awesome work table and matte organizing system that is perfect for our Studio.

On a sad note my Dad has been going through some hard times latley with injuries and illnesses that just won't let up. He just got over Limes disease while fighting an ankle injury that just won't go away. Now Unfortunately he is in the Hospital on Father's Day no less for a blood clotting issue caused by the foot being in the cast for so long. Unbelievable the Luck my poor Dad is having. He just cannot catch a break and I just want him to know that better times are ahead and before he knows it he'll be Scuba diving again!!

My Favorite Photographer

Everyone has an artist that touches them in a way no others do. For some reason or another we are drawn to their work. Whether they inspire us or we just enjoy the visual stimulation we get through their art.

Jason Hermann you are an inspiration. Your love of photography shows in everyone of your photos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion with the rest of us. Most of all thank you for inspiring me!!!

Sometimes it's to small to fill the frame.

The object were trying to photography that is ;) In that case we need to use a Macro lens, or in our case extension Tubes :) I took this Dragon fly pic the other day at the Basha Kill with a 25mm extension Tube I borrowed from Michele. That allowed me to get much closer to the "small subject" and still be able to focus. Basically the Extension Tube Attaches to the back of the lens and goes in between the camera and lens therefore changing the focusing range of the lens. Normally on The Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS L the closest focus possible is 1.5 meters. With the 25mm Extension tube I can get much closer now. Maybe a meter or slightly less. I haven't measured it yet, but it's much closer for sure and now this shot below actually fills the frame. Without the extension tube the subject would be much smaller in the frame and it wouldn't be near as cool :) The best bet is to have a true Macro lens, but money talks and extension tubes are cheap!

Special Moments

I believe that 1 of  the great joys of photography is capturing a special moment. This is one of my favorite "moments" that I've "captured".

Michele and I stopped at the Basha Kill Preserver Yesterday on the way home and WOW did we luck out! We met some very nice people who work for the DEC and help preserve/ protect animals and such. They had some cool Telescopes set up and 1 of them was aimed at a Eagles nest. Very cool to say the least.

Here is 1 of the Landscapes I grabbed why we were there:

More pics of the Basha Kill Preserve can be seen here :)

The Bronx Zoo is a great place.

Michele and I went to the Bronx Zoo the other day armed with a Canon 40D and a Canon 5D Mark II. We used the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens and the Canon 100-400 L lens for everything at the zoo. The 100-400 lens worked better for me as the 5D is a full frame Camera. So in other words the focal length is what the lens says with know crop factor like the 40D. The 40D has a 1.6x crop factor so the 70-200 worked out great for Michele. 200mm on the 40D = 320mm :)

Here is a few shots that I edited so far:

Capturing the Moment

When it comes to portraits of babies and families, I think Capturing the essence of the subjects is key to creating a great photograph. It's pretty easy to just snap a shot and make it look good, but capturing the heart of the person is another story entirely :) What we try to do at Jason Hermann Photography is to get to know our customers and become friends. That takes the potential awkwardness out of the equation and we can then concentrate on Natural smiles and laughs. Everybody has a good time and we capture some true emotions which is what our customers have come to expect and deserve from Professionals. Everybody is unique, and finding/ capturing that unique personality can be a truly enjoyable experience with great satisfaction as a result. Nothing feels better than a Customer totally blown away by the photos we captured!

Here is a few of those special capture's that stand out to me from some recent Customers :)

Chloe

My parents just got a new Puppy a short time ago and I managed to get this shot on the deck :)

I used the 5d Mark II, and the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS lens. Settings were 135mm, f/3.5 @1/500sec, ISO 200 with Highlight tone priority enabled. I was also on AI Servo mode for focusing and center weight average for the metering mode.

Simple is Sometimes Better

I notice that sometimes a simple scene often makes for a better image in the end. I could have tried to get multiple Dandelions in this shot, but instead I isolated it with nothing in the background so the DOF would totally blurr out the background. I also used Michele's new 25mm Extension Tub on the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L lens with the 5D Mark II. A great combination I must say, and the extension tube works great for getting closer to the subject. Not as good as a true macro lens, but for the money a great incvestment!! I got Michele's here at BHPhoto for $100 :)
